
The metaverse is exciting to a few, but uninteresting and/or unsettling to many others. A new survey by GWI, across nine global markets, found that only 37% of people are aware of the term ‘metaverse’ and actually know what it is. A further 33% said they are aware of the term but don’t know what it is, and 30% said they hadn’t even heard of the term.
Why does this matter? Well, for all the revolutionary positivity in tech company presentations about the metaverse, the majority of people — including beauty consumers — don’t really know what it is. Which means there’s quite a jump to make before people are engaging with beauty brands in the metaverse, learning about products, and making purchases.
