In spite of surging e-commerce use, consumers have made a shift towards local shopping since quite early in the pandemic. It has changed the way people see the world, and the place they live — research by Accenture found that 79% of global consumers feel more connected to their communities as a result of Covid-19. Even though people have been shopping online, and e-commerce giants like Amazon have taken a lion’s share of pandemic spending, local products and local brands have also benefited from accelerated demand and growth.
People are seeking out companies based in their area, and products produced locally. I touched on this in March when I wrote about what we’ve learned about Covid-19’s impact on the beauty industry after a year of restrictions. But the local leap deserves a closer look — because the pandemic has created more opportunities for local beauty brands, and your brand could gain traction by tapping into the mood of the moment.
