In Japan, there is a growing trend by fashion and beauty companies to use virtual models produced with 3D computer graphics technology (3DCG) when developing new marketing and advertising campaigns. Tokyo based CyberAgent is one of the few businesses currently in the space capitalising on the demand by offering a service known as ‘Cyber Human Production’, which merges artificial intelligence and virtual human CGI technology. The technology allows for businesses to create personality filled machines who appear as a well-crafted and flawless as many of today’s celebrities and online influencers.
For several years now influencers have been the focal point of many digital marketing strategies. However, the landscape is changing — in a way that could render actual human influencers obsolete. We’re going to take a look at the virtual influencer phenomenon, and, in particular look at how the adoption and advancements taking place in Japan, where marketing industry had wholly embraced the idea of using virtual humans.
