In 2020, Ramadan very much became a digital experience. This was largely because the holy month coincided with the rise of the pandemic, drastically changing the way Muslims had to observe Ramadan within just a matter of days. Muslim communities had to quickly reinvent Ramadan and Eid, a difficult thing to do when the spirituality of the month is tied to togetherness, community, and congregation. Many people moved online and turned to platforms like Zoom to seek a sense of familiarity and community in place of traditionally large gatherings and joint prayer.
